Live from Peoria, Illinois, it’s Sunday Afternoon Cheeseburger starring this week’s host, Khaki Jack’s and featuring The Ready For Prime Beef Player, Marty Wombacher. And now, please welcome this week’s host, located just minutes from the MBIP Headquarters, Khaki Jack’s!
Last year at this time we had a rare Sunday Afternoon Cheeseburger experience at Khaki Jack's, so in keeping with our going back to what we did a year ago here, we're doing the same thing. And I thought we'd bring Gumby along, he hasn't been out since we baked him at Sugar, so I think he deserves an afternoon out on the town!
Here's Gumby in his traveling basket riding shotgun in the MBIP Mobile.
Khaki Jack's is just a hop skip and a jump from the MBIP Headquarters.
And after a quick hop, skip and being just a little jumpy, here we is at Khaki Jack's, let's park the car and let this episode begin.
Okay, let's go in and see what's going on at Khaki Jack's on this Sunday afternoon.
The place is pretty busy for a Sunday afternoon, I think we'll take a seat there at the end of the bar.
Bartender Chuck serves up an ice-cold Budweiser to start the day, I think this is Chuck's fourth or fifth appearance on the MBIP blog.
Gumby and I have both settled in and are enjoying the relaxing afternoon at Khaki Jack's bar.
This is the view from where I'm seated, note the two mini Christmas Story lamps. The big one has been put away for the season.
Peanuts!
Kevin was seated next to me and we had a nice chat about the blog and Peoria area businesses.
I then placed my luncheon order and followed Chuck back into the kitchen area, because that's what I do.
Here's Brandon who's the chef on duty today. Last time we were here there was a different Brandon cooking up the daily meals in here. You don't have to be named Brandon to cook in here, but obviously it doesn't hurt your chances.
Here's super-cute waitress Joni, who I believe is making her third appearance on the blog. Always great to see her!
Hello...what's this, a microwave oven. Thoughts of Teenage Nukology are filling my brain and there's only one thing to do...
We must nuke Gumby!
Joni sets the time for one minute...
But after about ten seconds, Gumby's traveling container sets fire and it has to be removed.
Joni acts quickly and douses the fire in the sink before Gumby gets all burned up.
Here she is transferring Gumby to a fire-proof plate...
And it's back into the oven he goes...
The timer is once again set for one minute, let the nuking begin!
Wow, after about 15 seconds, the room is filled with smoke. There's no smoking in here, Gumby, what's wrong with you?
The top of his head is just a little melted, but once again, just like Gloria Gaynor, Gumby has survived!
Meanwhile back at the bar, lunch is about to be served.
And here's the first course, the Bugalug appetizer which is a grilled Portabella mushroom cap topped off with melted Mozzarella cheese and green peppers and grilled onions.
This is one tasty and unique appetizer!
For the main course, bartender Chuck suggested the Sanger sandwich and here it is. Let's take a closer look at it...
Wow, several types of meats and cheeses are housed inside of this sandwich, let's take a bite and see how it tastes.
This is definitely one tasty and unique sandwich that can only be found at Khaki Jack's, delicious!
And look who shows up at the end of the meal and buys us a dessert beer, Khaki Jack's owner, Tony Moreschi! It was great to see Tony again and he has a suggestion for a pizza stop which we're going to be doing once this shitty weather breaks. Stay tuned for that and we'll see you all tomorrow!
My Meal
At the suggestion of a couple sitting nearby me at the bar who refused to be photographed, I got the Bugalug for an appetizer. The Bugalug is a giant Portabella Mushroom topped off with onions, green peppers and melted Mozzarella cheese. It’s a great appetizer, not too filling but loaded with tasty goodness.
Chuck the bartender, who agreed to be photographed suggested the main course, the Sanger sandwich. The sandwich consists of generous protions of salami, ham, provolone and mozzarella cheeses served warm on bakery fresh Focaccia bread. The meats and cheeses form a symphony of deliciousness and the fresh, warm Focaccia bread takes it over the top. This is one unique and delicious sandwich served up exclusively at Khaki Jack’s.
There’s nine other sandwiches on the munu including a ham and cheese, salmon steak, a pork chop sandwich and the Sassy Sammy wich is a BLT made with jalapeno bacon, lettuce, tomato and spicy sauce served up on a grilled buttered bun. Khaki Jack’s also offers up seven types of chicken sandwiches and eight styles of burgers.

Bonus Gumby Art From Jaws the Cabbie!
Jaws the Cabbie sent in this piece of Gumby art to go along with today's post. Cool art from Jaws, but Gumby is still alive, the reports of his death have been greatly exaggerated!
