A couple of weeks ago after my post about getting shut down by those Corporate Weasels over at Avanti’s I posted about it on facecrack and got this nice comment from Double A’s:
Now there's some people who know how to promote their business! We had a great cheeseburger there last September, so let’s go see how the pizza is over at Double A’s...to the MBIP Mobile!
Double A’s is just down the street from the MBIP Headquarters, so it’s a handy location for this twelfth week of our pizza expedition.
Here we are, Double A’s bills itself as a sports bar, but it looks big enough to be a sports stadium!
They even have their own scorecard out in the front of the building up here.
Okay, let’s go inside and start this week’s pizza party!
There’s a big bar in here and true to a sports bars theme, lots of TV’s in here. However they are placed up higher, so they’re really not in your face. There’s a couple of seats down there at the end of the bar. Let’s go grab one and get settled in for the night.
Here’s the first beer of the evening, served up by Jen, the pretty and friendly bartender on duty.
Hey look, it’s MBIP pal, Clay Deal! We last saw him here when we had lunch with him and Doug Fouts from Xapsis at The Adams Street Cafe. Clay works here on the weekends and said he’d have a beer with me when his shift is over, so stay tuned for that! Great to see him again!
Clay introduced me to Arron who’s one of the owners of Crossfit North Peoria. He’s a nice guy and you can read about Crossfit here and why don’t you go and like their facecrack page by clicking here. It doesn’t cost you anything!
Here’s Kate and Aaron, who are the owners of Double A’s. They’re really friendly people and we had a nice conversation at the bar. They’re both born and raised here in Peoria and they told me that they opened Double A’s back in January of 2009 and that it was a scary time for both of them. Luckily and due to their hard work, the bar has become a hit in this area and they’re doing quite well with it. It’s obvious that they know what they’re doing because as I talked with them, many of their loyal customers stopped by to say hello to them. Really nice people and they encouraged me to take photos in the bar. Other businesses...*cough* Avanti’s *cough*...should take notice of this practice.
Here’s the view of the lit-up bottles behind the bar from where I’m perched.
There’s a half dozen beers on tap. Aaron let me go back behind the bar to take this photo...
So since I was back there I figured I might as well go ahead and snap an obligatory bar room mirror shot of myself in the midst of all these bottles.
Aaron took me back to the kitchen and introduced me to Woody who’s going to be cooking up our pizza tonight. After this introduction, Aaron and Kate had to leave, so I thought we’d take a look around while Woody cooks up our pizza pie.
Here’s a shot of the entire bar from the back of the room.
Large, plush booths line the outer walls of the front room.
Here’s the spaciouls dining area that’s located behind the bar. Check out the Cheap Trick floor!
There’s a another dining area off to the right side of the bar, this place is huge!
Well now; this is turning into one batty post...oof!
Here’s an article about the 1968 Manual baseball champs. Kate told me she went to Manual, so this is a nod to her old school.
They have a popular lunch buffet Monday through Friday and all the food is served back here. They offer up several styles of pizza, chicken wings, soups, salad, breadsticks and a whole lot more.
Meanwhile, back at the bar...
The condiment ring has been placed at my seat. And the hot sauce for the evening is Louisana Hot Sauce, that makes two weeks that we’ve been free from the generic, Frank’s Hot Sauce. Hooray!
Right on cue, Jen shows up with this week’s pizza pie. It’s our twelfth pizza in twelve weeks, let’s take a look at it...
Wow, it looks and smells fantastic.
I got the pizza topped with spiced beef, bacon, ham and onion. The spiced beef flavor really comes through and delivers a nice tang and bite to the pie. The crust is thin and has a nice texture and the homemade sauce is quite tasty, all in all, a really delicious pizza pie.
This is all I could eat, the rest will be taken back to MBIP Headquarters for the cold pizza tasting tomorrow.
And, as promised, Clay joins us for a dessert beer at the bar. It was great to catch up with him again. Cheers!
Fast forward to the next day and it’s time to sample some cold pizza...
Delicious! Thanks to Kate, Aaron, Clay and everyone at Double A’s for a great evening of pizza and fun! We’ll see you all tomorrow!
Pizza Rating
Three Chef Boyardees—A great pizza and I recommend you get the spiced beef for a topping, I really liked that and it made for a unique and tasty pizza!
