Since yesterday was Memorial Day, I thought it would be nice timing to try a pizza at Veteran’s Pub & Pizza on Adams. I’ve driven by this place many times, but I’ve never gone inside. That all changes with tonight’s pizza pie journey!
And in this Steve Perry-like moment, the aforementioned journey begins right here and now.
We've arrived! Here's the parking lot view of Veteran's Pub & Pizza...
And here's the view from the other side of the building.
Let's go in and see what's happening at the Pub tonight.
The bar is about half full, there's a seat down at the end and that's the one I'm going to snag and settle in for the evening.
And no sooner do I settle in than Bonnie, the pretty bartender on duty serves me up an ice cold bottle of Budweiser.
This is my view from the end of the bar.
There's tables located behind the bar and that's where Craig was hanging out and enjoying a beer. Craig told me that he's a regular here at the bar. Cheers!
There's a lot of tributes to the brave men and women who have served in the military and this is one of them at the end of the bar.
I just ordered a pizza and there it goes into the pizza oven. Let's look around a little while it's cooking.
A flag hangs on the wall opposite the bar and below it an electronic fireplace is built into the wall. Very cool!
There's a pool table back in this room behind the bar.
There's another room over here directly opposite the bar.
There's more military pictures and memorabilia on the walls back here.
Wow, check out the Peoria Morning Star front page article. I never knew there was a newspaper called the Peoria Morning Star till now.
Military uniforms of different stripes hang from the ceiling over here.
Discs displaying various coats of arms are on display on this shelf in the back room.
Meanwhile, back at the bar...
The hot sauces have been placed and it looks like it's just about pizza pie time! Of course there's the ever-present Frank's Hot Sauce along with two Kroger's Hot Sauces and one of my personal favorites, Sriracha hot sauce.
Jonny was seated a few seats away and wanted to know why I was taking pictures of the bottles of hot sauce. When I told him it was for this blog, he laughed and told me reads the MBIP blog. It turns out that Jonny moved back here about a year ago and discovered the MBIP blog when he was Googling about Peoria on the computer. Very cool and we all know what that means...time to cue this song up!
Here's Bonnie with this week's pizza pie!
I got a sausage and cheese pizza and here it is all sauced and peppered up. It looks wonderful!
The pizza here is great! The crust is thin and crunchy and the homemade sauce has a zippy tang to it. And even though it's not reflected in this photo, they're very generous with the toppings and there's a ton of tasty sausage on this pizza.
About half of the pie was all I could handle. It was a very tasty pizza and I thank Bonnie and everyone at Veteran's Pub & Pizza for the hospitality!
And now for the next day cold pizza challenge! (Note to Spike: I drank one of the Red Stripe's in your honor!)
It's delicious! We'll see you all tomorrow!
