Last week I saw this update from Castle’s Patio Inn on facecrack:
Well, that makes this week’s pizza decision easy enough. To the MBIP Mobile!
Off we go, vroom, vroom, zoom, zoom and all that gas-related jazz.
Here we are at cheesiest bar in town and if you don’t get that, well, you’ve never been to Castle’s Patio Inn. What a classic Peoria neighborhood corner bar...
Let’s go in and see what’s going on in here.
Seeing that it’s getting near closing time, there’s plenty of seats to choose from at the bar. Let’s grab one and get settled in for the evening.
Here he is, the friendliest bartender in town, Alex, serving up a cold Budweiser. Alex is a veteran here at Castles, having over 12 years of duty behind the bar. Cheers to Alex!
Lacey's down at the end of the bar with a drink flashing a pretty smile for the MBIP camera. And yes, we have identical glasses.
Craig showed up for some cheese and crackers and a Coke. He told me that he lives in the neighborhood and is retired. He also told me he doesn't own a computer, so he'll never see any of this. So I guess it's safe to say that it looks a little like someone's put a cattle prod up his ass...hey, he'll never see it!
This is the view from my seat at the bar, you can see the frosted Castle's Patio Inn logo in the center of the mirror.
I love the vintage Busch sign and clock that hangs above the mirror. Head for the mountains!
There's the pizza on the menu, but look at what it says below that, "Try Our Famous Cheese..."
And so I did!
And it was so good! The best cheese spread in Peoria!
The only trouble with it is it disappears so fast! Oh well, on to the main course!
There's Kevin, the chef at Castle's pointing to the Pizzaria sign that Alex's dad Ken made for him for Christmas, time to assemble this week's pie!
This guy is speedy and I can hardly keep up with him. We just got back here and already he's adding the sauce to the crust. The sauce is made fresh here at Castle's and it's Kevin's recipe. On a side note, Kevin won first place at the Heart of Illinois Fair for his home-brewed beer this year, so congratulations to him for that achievement!
He's making sure we get just the right amount of sauce on the pie...
I thought we'd keep it simple this week and I went with a cheese pizza, but as you can see, we're getting a generous amount of cheese on top of this pie.
Into the oven it goes. Kevin said it'll take about fifteen minutes to cook, so let's get another beer at the bar and wander around a little bit.
Love the Budweiser trolley!
In a Meatloaf-like moment I just realized that two out of the three taps are Michelob. And check this out...
Here's little Michelob monument at the bar. And there's more...
Michelob neon lights up this wall and underneath hangs a vintage Michelob sign. The night truly does belong to Michelob in here!
Here's the dining area in back of the bar and the table to the far right is a special table...
It's the Patio Conference Table and owner Chuck Castle is the Field Manager. I've never really understood this so...
We'll go back to the bar where...
It appears that it's just about pizza time! And once again I've forgotten to bring a bottle of Tabasco from the collection that Ragin RR sent in, but they've got Texas Pete's hot sauce and not a bottle of Frank's in sight, so all is good!
Here we go, Kevin's serving up this week's pie...
It looks and smell fantastic!
Time for the time-honored MBIP cooling process while we get another beer and get ready to sample this week's pie.
Kevin grabbed the MBIP camera and took a shot of me taking the first bite. The pizza was great, the crust is crispy, it was cooked to perfection and I really like the homemade sauce. Tangy and tasty and it blended nicely with the creamy melted cheese. Great work by Kevin, as always! Thanks to him, Alex and Lacey for another wonderful night at Castle's Patio Inn!
And now it's time for the weekly cold pizza challenge and for those of you keeping score on the Baba beer: Two down and four to go!
It's delicious! We'll see you all tomorrow!
