Okay, it’s been a while since we had an entry of eating Main Street one eatery at a time until we hit Western Avenue. The next stop on this trip up the Main Street hill is Ulrich’s Rebellion Room and I realized that every one of these stops on this tour has been in the daytime. Ulrich’s kitchen is open late in the evening, so it’s time to do a nighttime version of Eating Main Street! To the MBIP Mobile!
Here we go traveling up Main Street hill on a freezing winter evening. The last stop of this tour was B Easy, which means that...
Ulrich's Rebellion Room is our next stop. I've parked and there's Ulrich's Rebellion Room just across the street. Oh how I hate to leave my warm car to go out into sub-zero temperatures, but here we go. Oh, before we begin this chilly journey, just let me throw this one little thought out there: I fucking HATE winter! Okay, let's go.
There it is, in all its glory, Ulrich's Rebellion Room. And please note...
This is a fully licensed Irish pub! I refuse to drink in one of those knock-off half licensed joints where they have Lucky Charms on the menu.
Let's get inside and get out of this freezing weather before my camera gets frostbitten.
Plenty of seats to be had at the bar, which I expected on a freezing-ass Tuesday night, only the die-hards are out on a weeknight like this and these are my kind of people! Let's snag a seat and get settled in for the evening.
Here's Jim, who's bartending tonight serving us up the first beer of the evening. I thought JIm looked familiar and he reminded me that we first met at New Amsterdam in the summer of 2013. Time flies when you're eating your way up Main Street! Good to see Jim again!
There's a large and looming wooden bookcase behind the bar filled with booze and various knick-knacks and there's also...
Ulrich's apparel available, the hats are hanging underneath the sign.
A stained-glass chandelier and fans hang underneath the tin ceiling overhead.
This front alcove has a table and window that overlooks Main Street. As you can see, not much action happening out there on this freezing winter evening. I did mention how much I fucking HATE winter, didn't I? Oh, good.
Polished wooden booths line the wall opposite the bar.
A Guinness mirror and other art and photos hang overhead.
There's tables in the back behind the booths.
Unplanned obligatory Notre Dame mirror shot. I love it when that happens!
There's a separate bar here in the back that overlooks the kitchen area.
And here is that aforementioned kitchen area.
This way for a Guinness...
The sign doesn't lie! There's Guinness and eleven other beers on tap, including...
Moody Cow, from our pals over at Peoria Brewing Company. Those guys certainly are getting their product out and around town!
They also have a crazy-huge selection of bottled beer back here in these coolers behind the bar. If you don't believe me...
Just look at this list! See I told you so, now quite doubting me...goddammit!
Meanwhile, back at the bar...
Our sandwich is served up by Jim. And my stupid camera fuzzed out this shot, I hate it when that happens, but whatcha going to do when they come for you? Bad boys, bad boys...
I didn't order a full-blown meal because I had something to eat earlier in the evening, but this Ribeye Steak sandwich looks like a meal unto itself. I got it with cheddar cheese and grilled onions. Looks like I'll have to eat this baby with a knife and fork!
Wow, this is so good! The Ribeye is tender and juicy and the grilled onions and melted sharp cheddar cheese top it off nicely. The cherry on top of this meaty sundae is the hoagie roll. It's bakery fresh and has been grilled in butter. This is a great sandwich to devour on a chilly winter night.
Burp!
Just as I was finishing my last beer, Jim came in to start his shift. We met Jim the last time we were in here and it was great to see him again. And yes, it appears that you have to be named Jim to bartend here! We'll see you all tomorrow!
