I’ve always been a fan of Donovan so when I heard that there was going to be a free tribute concert to him at Younger Than Yesterday last Sunday, I put it on my calendar to make sure I didn’t miss it. If you missed it, or if you were there and want to re-live it, you can check out the day and the concert in the photos and text below. First there was a mountain and now there’s all...this! Enjoy!
Here we are at Younger Than Yesterday, which I think is one of the coolest store-fronts in all of Peoria! From the KISS painting on the roof to the Fab Four, Nipper and Johnny Cash flipping the bird, it’s got a great pop culture display going on! As always, I’m a little early, so let’s go inside and take a little look around before the show.
As I enter I see a familiar face at work behind the counter, it’s the owner of Younger Than Yesterday and the man producing today’s Donovan tribute, Craig Moore. Craig commissioned artist Dave Moe to do a special poster for today’s show and there’s Craig holding the two versions of it. Great poster and wonderful Fillmore inspired art by Dave Moe!
Here’s a few shots of fun things hanging around Younger Than Yesterday on the walls and on the floor. There’s a lot to look at in here and for a more inclusive tour, just click here. Right now, let’s go check out the stage area up front!
Looks like they’re all set up for the show up here! There’s guitars, a set list, a lyric sheet and a drum set. And if there’s a drum set in Younger Than Yesterday, then Matt Warren can’t be far behind and there he is warming up for the show! As you can see in the photo below Matt, a group has staked out some choice seats up front and look, it’s a banana on top of the keyboard. But it doesn’t look electrical...somebody needs to fix that...
Okay, that’s better!
For those of you not familiar with Donovan, here’s some of his album covers and you can check out more about him by clicking right here. Hey, look at that last cover, “Donovan In Concert,” which is perfect timing because...
It’s just about showtime! The trio playing the music today is, Ryan on bass, guitar, viola and vocals, Matt on drums, bass, guitar, triangle, percussion and vocals and Jacob on guitar, organ, marimba and vocals. Max also joined in on bass and drums later on in the set, but we’re getting ahead of things here!
Here’s Craig doing the introductions and then...
It’s showtime!
This was such a great show and it sounds like twice the musicians on stage as opposed to a trio! They chose some great Donovan tunes and really played them fantastic!
As you can see, I’m not the only one taking pictures! Go, Craig, go!
Everyone in the band switched off on instruments and this was such a fun show! I should mention here that Ryan and Max are from the band, The Golden Fleece, Jacob is a member of The Oceanographers and Matt is in Ready Steady Go, The Nikbeats, Jonny Quest, The Temporary Tribute Band and Speechless. All of them are first class musicians and it was a treat to see them play live!
Craig joined the band for the last song of the show, Atlantis! What a great show and you know what you need to do when a show is over at Younger Than Yesterday...you need to get...
Gonn! Thanks to Craig for putting on these great shows, if you’ve never been to one you should go to the next one and support this wonderful live music in Peoria! We’ll see you all tomorrow!
