Well, here we are, week number twelve of this Twelve More Weeks of Chicken Wings food tour. On the original chicken wing tour, Travis, who owns The Publik House invited us to try their wings and I never made it there, so I promised him I’d stop by on this tour. And so in this final week, let’s make good on that promise and try the chicken wings at The Publik House on restaurant row in Peoria Heights!
Okay, here we are at The Publik House, let’s go inside and start week number twelve of chicken wingery fun!
Wow, it’s crowded in here, but Travis said he’d save me a seat at the end of the bar. Before we go find that, let’s take a look around in here.
There’s booths that line the wall opposite the bar and tables in the middle. The Publik House has lots of artwork and photos on the walls to look at. The bottom photo is of Mike “Sully” Sullivan, a legendary bar owner here in Peoria and Travis used to work for him. That’s a nice tribute!
I love the wooden mermaids that dance in the middle of the bar! Very cool!
In between the mermaids are the beers on tap in this classic Guinness wooden box frame. My favorite is the skeleton on the end!
I met this quartet of pretty women at the bar and they told me that they’re all regular readers of MBIP, which always makes me happy. They are, from left: Andrea, Bekah, Katie and Katie. It was nice to meet them and Katie (in the hat) and I had a really nice chat at the bar about food, Chicago and New York.
Will was the friendly bartender on duty and here he is doing double-duty serving up a can of Speckled Hen and flashing the MBIP card! Nice work, Will!
Here’s the owner of The Publik House, Travis with Karina, who originally invited us here over three years ago. Three years ago? That’s crazy, as I always say, “fun flies when you’re having time!”
There’s Travis putting in our wing order at the kitchen window. I strolled over and got a shot of an out-going order and it looks delicious! I’m not sure what that sandwich is but there’s bacon poking out of it and that’s always a good thing! The fries are their bacon and blue cheese fries and they look so tasty! I need to try them on my next visit! That’s Tim in the last photo who’s back in the kitchen creating and cooking all the delicious food magic here at Publik House!
Here’s the view from where I’m seated at the bar. The back of the bar here is very impressive and elegant looking.
And here’s Travis with this week’s plate of wings!
They have two styles of chicken wings here at Publik House, BBQ and Spicy Guinness Buffalo Sauce. That’s the BBQ on the left and the Spicy Guinness Buffalo Sauce are on the right. I’m letting them go through the ever-important cooling process while I order another can of Speckled Hen.
I sampled the BBQ first and it was really good, but it was no match for the Spicy Guinness Buffalo Sauce wings. Those were out of this world tasty. They’re juicy and pack just the right amount of heat and tang and the sauce is bold but not overpowering. Wonderful wings at The Publik House!
As I finished up the wings I met Rebecca and Tammy at the bar. It turns out that Tammy is friends with LIsa who owns Menzoil where I got a pedicure from last December! Okay, time to cue this up for the first time in this new chapter of MBIP!
I got up and walked around and ran into Colleen and Lisa at the bar! I’ve known Colleen since she was a little kid and it was great to see her and to meet Lisa! We had a super fun time talking and hanging out at the bar.
As I was making my way out the door I ran into Travis who was entertaining friends at this table near the front window. Thanks to Travis and everyone at The Publik House for a fun twelfth week of wings. And this chicken wing tour isn’t over yet, there’s a couple more winged surprises coming up, so stay tuned for those! We’ll see you all tomorrow!
Chicken Wing Rating:
Three And A Half Wings Guitar Picks. I liked the BBQ, but I would suggest if you’re just going to try one flavor, choose the Spicy Guinness Buffalo Sauce, really tasty and delicious!
