Live from Peoria, Illinois, It’s Saturday Afternoon starring this week’s host, Emo’s Dairy Mart with unscheduled stops at Proctor ER and Walgreens. And now, please welcome this week’s host, Emo’s Dairy Mart!
One sure sign that spring has sprung is that Emo’s Dairy Mart on the corner of Prospect and War Memorial Drive is open for business. They had their annual early opening festival on March 22nd, but I was in Mexico, so I missed it. I decided to make up for that by coming here in the afternoon and taking some photos and getting my first chili-cheese dog of the year. My plan is to come back later after work and try something else off of the menu for my Saturday night dinner.
Even though it’s springtime, it’s unseasonably cold here in Peoria today. It’s about 40 degrees with a wind chill making it feel like the mid-30’s. No wonder no one’s eating their Emo’s treat outside.
It's quite a testament to Emo’s that even in this cold weather, there’s a line here. I got in line and as I got closer I checked out the condiments and while the ketchup here isn’t Heinz, it’s not Hunt’s either, so I’m happy to see this. In fact, I’ve never had French’s Ketchup, so I think I’ll get an order of fries and try it out on my nighttime trip later this evening.
Okay, I’m just about there and whoomp, here I am placing my first Emo’s order of the season to Kara and Shay! I ordered a chili-cheese dog and a vanilla shake for my afternoon Emo’s meal and I’ll get a dinner order when I come back tonight for the Saturday night dinner.
It’s too cold to eat outside, so I headed to the MBIP Mobile to eat my first Emo’s lunch of the season!
I got the chili-cheese dog and it was so good! They pile the chili and cheese on top of a tasty hot dog and the bun is steamed and soft. I scarfed it down in record time! Now I have to go home and get ready for work and we’ll have our second course when I’m done with my night shift at work.
Whoops! Things All Of A Sudden Go Very Wrong On This Saturday Night...
At work my leg that got bit by a Mexican spider started hurting and I was a little concerned because it was more swollen than it was the day before. My doctor told me if it started swelling or getting more red I should either call her or go to the ER if it was after hours. I also noticed two scary holes on my leg and that kind of scared me as well. Earlier that day my foot was a little swollen and discolored which I figured was more blood coagulation that was discoloring the rest of my leg. While I was looking at my leg, my foot started feeling like it was swelling inside of my shoe and it felt warm, so I took off my shoe and sock and saw this....
Well that certainly freaked me out and so I abandoned any thoughts about my return trip to Emo’s and I quickly left work and went to...
The ER room at Proctor Hospital. This marks my third visit here since my leg got all fucked up by this spider bite in Mexico. I came here after I flew back home and then I returned the following Thursday when my leg had further complications. I highly recommend Proctor’s ER, both visits were quick for an ER trip and this time was just like the other two. I got here and within 15 minutes a doctor examined me and said the foot was just more blood coagulation happening and it wasn’t as frightening as it looked. She also told me that the holes in my leg were from swelling and it was nothing out of the ordinary. She was a little concerned about the swelling in my leg though, since it’s been two weeks and it hasn’t changed much in the last week, so she gave me a prescription for a higher dosage of antibiotics than I’ve been taking. She said I should start taking them as soon as possible. So I abandoned my idea of the Emo’s dinner and went to Walgreens to get the prescription.
After I was discharged from the hospital I drove to Walgreens but while the store was open, the pharmacy was closed. I had to wait till the next day to get my prescription. That sucks, but what are you going to do? I decided what I was going to do was go to the frozen food aisle because by this time I was starvin’ like you know who! I decided to get a frozen pizza, I was a little bummed that they don’t have Butch’s Pizza. The lights were pointing to the DiGiorno’s pizza, so that’s what I got. I’ve never had this brand of frozen pizza, so let’s go back to the MBIP World Headquarters and cook it up.
Okay, here we are back at the MBIP World Headquarters Kitchen. I decided to microwave it because by now I was really hungry and so I put it on the crisper tray and into the microwave oven. Three minutes later it was time to have our Saturday Night dinner...
Here it is. It looks a lot better than it actually was. The crust tasted like ten year old cardboard and it was kind of greasy. Not a very good Saturday night dinner at all, but that’s the way it goes sometimes.
I’d really like to find that fucking Mexican spider that bit my leg and stomp on him with my diseased foot! We’ll see you all tomorrow, unless I have to get my leg amputated this afternoon.
