It’s the 4th of July, so we have to cook up a hot dog, it’s just the rules. Okay, let’s get cooking!
The ingredients for today’s meal are, from left: Lays Wavy Salt & Pepper Chips, Nathan’s Jumbo Beef Franks, Tillamook Sharp Cheddar Cheese, Stroop Wafels and Lewis Hawaiian Hot Dog Buns.
Of course, the most important ingredient is a Bud Light tallboy!
We’re going to make the chips hot and cheesy today!
I’ve chosen some of the bigger and more sturdy chips from the bag and topped them with the Tillamook Sharp Cheddar cheese. I also added a few drops of Texas Pete’s hot sauce to each chip.
We’ll put them in the top rack of the oven, but we won’t turn it on yet, because these will only take a couple of minutes to cook. Today’s meal is going to be a quick one to prepare, which is good because I’m staving’ like you know who!
I’ve taken one of the Nathan’s hot dogs and sliced it down the middle, but didn’t cut it in half. I’ve also buttered the inside of one of the hot dog buns.
I put the sliced hot dog in this pan, which is pre-heated and has melted butter in it. I’ve found that cooking a hot dog like this really brings out the flavor and the butter adds a nice taste to the hot dog.
My idea was to grill the bun in the pan and then add the hot dog inside with cheese. Well, the bun just got soggy with the butter and when I tried to flip it over it turned into a folded mess.
Time to improvise because we can’t let this failure stop us now!
I put the hot dog back in the pan to keep it warm and took another bun, put some of the cheddar cheese on it and I’m going to broil it with the chips.
Full speed and straight ahead, bun failure be damned!
After three minutes under the broiler they were a melty success!
The pan-fried hot dog has been added along with a generous dollop of spicy Sandwich Pal mustard. Time to plate this Thursday Minute Marty Meal up!
I think we rebounded from the bun failure quite nicely and this 4th of July cheesy hot dog meal looks fantastic!
Let’s dig in!
I thought I’d try the cheddar chips first. They’re warm, crisp and the cheese is a great topping. The hot sauce adds a nice kick, now on to the star of this 4th of July show…
The Cheddar Cheese Dog!
This was such a tasty hot dog! The hot dog was delicious and the butter really did bring out the flavor. The spicy mustard and melted cheese added nice flavors to the mix and the bun was toasty and bakery fresh. A real holiday treat!
For dessert I thought I’d try one of these caramel Stroop Wafels.
I decided to add some of the Funks Grove Syrup that MBIP pal and Wheelman, Scott Turley gave me the other day on our road trip to the Stroop Wafel.
I put some in the bottom of the bowl and then some on top. Now we’ll warm it up in the microwave.
Oh my god! This was a sweet and delicious treat! That syrup is unbelievable, thanks again Scott!
And now, for a special 4th of July titillating photo montage…
