Record stores are one of the many things that the internet has hurt. I went to New York City last May and there’s just a handful of record stores left in that city. One of my favorites was a used record store on Bleecker Street and that is now a Verizon store. Ouch!
Happily Peoria is home to a record store that is not only existing in the internet age, it’s thriving!
Younger Than Yesterday is owned by Craig Moore who has lived his life on both sides of the record bin. He’s had a record store here in Peoria as long as I’ve known him and that’s way back to when both of us were literally decades younger than yesterday! He’s also a musician who’s been a member of the legendary band, Gonn and he’s had a solo career so he’s also had a life inside of the record racks himself!
Let’s go and check out the seventh shop on our Xmas list, Younger Than Yesterday!
Here we are at Younger Than Yesterday.
Craig’s been operating out of this shop for years and he recently took the wood off of the windows and brought the shop back to its original look.
it’s nice to see the Fab Four, the RCA Victor Pooch and Johnny flipping the bird in the windows again!
Let’s go in and see what’s happening inside of this colorful place!
The Blue Meanie hand points to a spot where the aforementioned Craig Moore is located!
Always great to see Craig and he said business has been great in here. In addition to running Younger Than Yesterday and his on-going music career, Craig also performs and produces some of this areas most advantageous and outrageous musical shows, including the most recent John Lennon tribute show at the 3300 Event Center, which was a phenomenal show.
Thanks for all you do for this city, Craig! It is much appreciated!
There’s a whole Christmas vinyl section in here for your music and gifting collections and selections!
And of course there’s a huge musical vinyl selection in here as well!
If you’re a Beatle fan, there’s a fab island of vinyl albums in here including rare band selections, early hard to find albums, items from their solo careers and Beatles related works.
Yeah, yeah…yeah!
There’s also scores of other rock ‘n roll selections to choose from in here as well. The selections and inventory are endless.
Cassette tapes are making a comeback and Craig has a huge selection of these in the store.
Craig is also now selling stereo components in here including turntables and receivers to play the vinyl and cassettes on. You can party like it’s 1977 again after shopping in here!
And as I mentioned, Craig lives outside and inside of these record bins and here’s the vinyl section for his legendary band, Gonn.
This was an amazing band that made rock ‘n roll history and you can read their story here and you can see the post from where I was lucky enough to see them blow the roof off of the Limelight right here in Peoria a few years ago!
If you’re not looking for vinyl, cassettes or stereo components, there’s also rock ‘n roll t-shirts and you can also buy your child a cute and creepy little David Bowie toy in here!
And right next door is Strawberry Fields which is loaded with compact disc selections and other fun gift items. Craig is expanding the store into this space located next to him, so stay tuned for updates on that right here at MBIP!
You’ve got less than a week for your last minute Xmas shopping and I suggest you stop in and see Craig Moore at Younger Than Yesterday for everyone on your rocking around the Christmas tree list!
