Last Sunday was my third time being a guest on the wonderful and entertaining Couch Pilots Podcast. I’ve posted about being a guest on this podcast before, but if you missed those, Couch Pilots Podcast is a weekly podcast that features reviews of TV pilots that were never picked up.
There’s a lot of TV pilots that never became proper TV series and this podcast, which is hosted by Blake Clayton and Jason Tauscher, is living proof. They’ve been doing a weekly podcast featuring these failed television pilots for over eight years now!
But, as they say, all good things must come to an end and the Couch Pilots are going to be landing their fun and comical plane and parking it in the hangar for good.
The 400th episode is going to be their last one. I think that happens sometime this summer. I hate to see this end, but glad they’re ending it while they’re still on top of their game!
Blake and Jason were kind enough to have me on for one final flight, so buckle up, buttercups, because we’re about to take flight on Couch Pilots Podcast!
And there’s guaranteed turbulence on this and every Couch Pilots flight! Not that there’s anything wrong with that!
There’s the Couch Pilots impressive podcast studio!
I forgot to get my usual Blake and Jason shot, so I took the bottom shot off of their podcast page.
Here’s a few pre-taping photos of Jason and Blake setting up.
Luckily, I’m not part of this process so I just drank beer and took these photos.
Drinking the beer was the highest priority of my two duties!
There’s lots of cool photos, art and t-shirts in the studio as you see in these and the following photos.
Okay, time to tape this episode! Jason told me that this one should air on May 29th and I’ll put up a link here on the blog and social media when it does.
In addition to talking about the failed TV pilot of the week, there’s fun and unscripted conversation before the dicussion about the pilot begins.
This is always a lot of fun and it can get a little politically incorrect, basically because the three of us don’t really give a flying fuck about anything!
This is the only script of the show. It’s the annual reading of the TV pilot scene from Pulp Fiction.
The TV pilot we discussed was a failed game show called, Get Rick Quick, from 1977.
Here’s some screen shots from the show. Steve Edwards was the host and the celebrities included, Lynnie Green, Debralee Scott, Robert Urich and John Ritter.
Click here if you want to watch this pilot but be forewarned: It pretty much sucks ass!
I channelled my inner Norm McDonald and used the words, “Dirty, dirty whore” a record amount of times in this episode!
They also taped an episode after mine featuring Jason’s sister, Sarah and his brother, Ryan, seated there at the table.
They were great guests and had wonderful commentary. They weren’t as great as me, of course, but hey, who is?
Ryan created the Illinois Game Con which takes place in Bloomington, Illinois on June 24th. Check it out here and here. Tell Ryan you know me and he’ll charge you double to get in!
It’s always fun being part of this original and wacky podcast and it was wonderful to see Blake and Jason and a pleasure to meet and chat with Sarah and Ryan!
Again, I’ll post a link when the episode goes live!
