We’re in the final few weeks of summer and up to our eighth week of sampling hot dogs around town.
I saw a hot dog on a menu online at a place I’ve been curious about for a while and you’ll find out where that place is if you just keep scrolling. And we’ve got a special guest star that we’re picking up this week!
Let’s get going and start this eighth doggone week!
Here we are at Acme Comics to pick up this week’s doggone guest star…and I think I see him digging through the albums over there…
It’s the esteemed owner and operator of Acme Comics, Bob Gordon!
Always great to see Bob and now let’s head out for this week’s hot diggity dog!
My original plan was to try a hot dog and maybe a tamale or two at Jeff Scott’s Tamales, which is just about a block away from Acme Comics.
But Bob and I walked over there and we were told that hot dogs are no longer on the menu, even though they’re featured on their online menu.
Time to blow the sad trombone and think of a back-up plan!
We decided to go to the Dog Haus Biergarten Peoria in the Metro Centre. They have a variety of hot dogs and they’re always tasty!
Let’s go in and try our second stop of the day! If at first you don’t succeed, head over to the Dog Haus!
You order up at this counter and the menu is hanging overhead, which is pretty darned handy!
Sam took our order and we’ve bounced back rather nicely after a rough start on this week’s hot diggity dog journey!
We settled in at a corner table in the dining room and there’s Bob happily seated with his iced tea!
Time for me to abandon him and take some photos in here! Hey, it’s what I do!
They have a really nice bar in the front of the room in here with a nice “Biiergarten” neon sign blazing overhead.
As you can see, they have a decent amount of beers on tap and there’s the Happy Hour beer list on a board right next to the bar.
Share the love, Peoria…the love of wieners that is!
Meanwhile, back at our table…
Our lunch has been served!
Bob got the cheeseburger which is a burger with white cheddar cheese on a King’s Hawaiian Roll and he also got a side of fries.
I got the Chili Idol hot dog and an order of the Cheese Tots. Time to dig in!
Bob sliced his burger up and took a bite and said it was very delicious. He gave the fries a high rating as well and said he really enjoyed his luncheon meal!
My Cheese Tots were rich, crispy and very tasty. I’m off to a delicious start!
The Chili Idol hot dog is an all beef hot dog topped with their homemade chili, cheese sauce and fresh chopped onions on a toasted King’s Hawaiian Hot Dog Roll.
It looks fantastic, let’s dig in to this dog of the week!
This is one tasty and delicious hot dog.
The chili is beanless, bold and has a nice savory flavor to it. It’s balanced out by the rich and creamy cheese sauce and the onions add a nice crunch to the all beef hot dog.

Hot Dog Rating
I’ll give this tasty hot dog a high rating of three and three quarters Wienermobiles.
I’ve never had a bad meal here at the Dog Haus and this one was certainly impressive!
I highly recommend the Chili Idol hot dog here at the Dog Haus and I love the name as well!
Thanks to Bob for joining us and being the hot diggity dog guest star of the week!
