Every Picture In The MBIP World Headquarters Tells A Story: The Curse Of Lono Poster
Bantam Books published the Hunter S. Thompson book, The Curse of Lono in 1983.
There was an ad for the book in Rolling Stone and it said if you sent in your name and address to a certain address, you could win a limited edition poster. I think they only printed 1,000 copies of it.
I sent in my name and address and promptly forgot all about it.
About a month later a tube arrived at my apartment. I opened it up and was shocked when it was The Curse of Lono poster advertised in Rolling Stone!
I promptly had it framed and put it up on my wall and it’s been hung in every apartment since then.
It’s currently on display in the front room of the MBIP World Headquarters as pictured above.

Christina from Sassy called me in June and asked a few questions and asked if she could put the subscription price in the article. Back then I was offering twelve issues of fishwrap for fifteen bucks. That’s a lot of money for a teenager, so I told Christina that we would offer Sassy readers a sample issue of fishwrap for a dollar and then if they liked it well enough, they could subscribe. She thought that was nice of me to offer and told me we were slated to be in the November issue which would come out at the end of September.
I was really excited about this and we went to work on the next fishwrap and I continued to work my night job at Sarabande Press, which was now paying my rent.
By mid September, I kept looking for the new issue of Sassy and finally it came out. I excitedly flipped through and in the middle came to a two page spread with the title of, “what now” and whoomp there we were. The two pages basically featured people and things that Sassy deemed cool and interesting. We were right next to the “Cute Band Alert” which was the band, Chavez. Directly across the page was the “zine of the month” with a picture of the “Three Funerals and No Wedding” copy of fishwrap.

This Week’s Sunday Night Pizza Video
For this week’s frozen pizza video review, I tried a Connie’s Sausage Pizza. The name “Connie” brought back memories of “Sweet Connie” a legendary ’70’s groupie who got name-checked in the Grand Funk Railroad song, “We’re An American Band.”
Find out what I thought of this week’s pizza and what kind of rating it got by clicking right here.
