Live, from Chillicothe, Illinois, it’s Saturday Night Cheeseburger starring this week’s host, the Chilli Bowl and featuring the Ready For Prime Beef Player, Marty Wombacher. And now, please welcome, all the way from Truitt Avenue in Chillicothe, The Chilli Bowl!
On the road again, I can see the city lights of Chillicothe ahead.
And here we are at The Chilli Bowl. This bowling alley has been a fixture in Chillicothe for decades and I've never been inside of it. Let's go check it out and see what's shaking in there on a Saturday night.
The neon sign says that they're open, so let's go on inside.
One more set of doors and we'll be inside the Chilli Bowl.
Before we check out the bowling alley, I spy a place I think we should go to first...
The bar! It's kind of a small bar, but there's some seats down there at the end, let's go settle in.
Here's bartender Danielle serving up the first beer of the evening in her pink Chilli Bowl t-shirt and flashing a great smile!
This is the view from my perch at the bar.
They have specials every night of the week in here as you can see from this special sign hanging behind the bar.
There's a round table behind the bar to sit at...
And there's a full dining area off to the side of the bar over here.
Pictures line the walls over here...
Here's a vintage ad for Pabst Blue Ribbon.
This 7-Up ad seems a little pseudo-sexual to me!
Boo! A little reminder that this is Halloween week.
I love this Budweiser bowling neon sign on the wall in here.
Okay, I've placed my food order with Danielle, let's go check out the bowling alley as that gets cooked up.
Danielle told me it's a little slow in here tonight because there's a lot of Halloween parties going on in the area. Plus it's getting close to closing time in here, so all ten lanes are empty.
This guy freaks me out a little, let's just keep moving along...
There's rows of multi-colored bowling balls off to the side of the lanes.
Bowling shoes!
Tables are set up next to a counter behind the bowling lanes.
Wooden booths are lined up here in front of the bar, speaking of the bar, let's go see if tonight's cheeseburger is about ready to be served up...
The table is set at the bar, cheeseburger time is just about to begin here at MBIP!
Speak of the devil and the cheeseburger is served up! I got something a little different this week, the Chilli Bowl has an open-faced burger that's served up with mushrooms, grilled onions, Swiss cheese and au jus. It looks and smells fantastic!
I added some mustard and pepper to the mix, let's dig in and see how this creation tastes.
Wow, this is one tasty burger, very delicious!
I also got an order of the Chilli Bowl chips which are deep fried and then covered in a special seasoning. They're great.
Burp.
Hey, what's in the bowl over there?
Trick or treat, it's dessert! We'll see you all tomorrow!
My Cheeseburger
The Chilli Bowl has a nine choices of cheeseburgers on their extensive menu including: a Jalepeno Burger, the Frisco Burger, a Mushroom Swiss Burger and a Patty Melt. I ignored those choices and got the Open Face Burger which is a half pound burger (quarter pound is available as well), generously topped with cheese, grilled onions, mushrooms and served in a river of savory au jus. The burger is served on a piece of homemade Texas Toast and it’s a taste sensation. The Texas Toast soaks up the savory and tangy au jus and it mixes in with the burger, grilled onions and melted swiss cheese for a really unique burger experience.
Other items offered on the menu include: Ribeye Steak Sandwich; a Double Decker Club; Spicy Pork Chop Salad and a six piece Shrimp Dinner. There’s also a full bar for those of you over 21 or if you have a fake I.D.
Cheeseburger Rating
Three Wimpy’s, this is really a tasty and unusual burger.
