I don’t know if you’ve heard the news, but Davis Bros. Pizza in East Peoria, which is a legendary pizza parlor that has been in operation since 1948, has just been sold to new owners!
So, MBIP Pal and Wheelman, Scott Turley and I decided to go and check out the new phase of Davis Bros. Pizza Pie…
Hey, what’s that…
I said, PIZZA pie, not cherry pie and it’s Davis Bros. Pizza, not Davis Pies, so wipe that cherry-ass grin off of your photoshopped face and tell your story going back down the stairs. Goodbye and good-fucking riddance. Sheesh!
Let’s try this again…
Okay, this is more like it, it’s Scott Turley, MBIP Pal and Wheelman and he came with a tin of holiday savory snack mix made by his wife, Carla/Moonbaby! Thanks, Carla, I’ll have it for dessert!
Alright, time to hit the road!
And we’re off on a chilly Sunday evening: Destination, East Peoria!
There’s Scott behind the wheel and a swirly road-front ahead.
Well, that didn’t take long and here we are at Davis Bros. Pizza in East Peoria.
This is an iconic pizza parlor and they’ve been in business since 1948.
Here’s the front dining room, which of course leads us to the bar and Scott is already camped out there ahead of me!
As we mentioned, Davis Bros. Pizza is under new ownership and it was bought by Chad Zike, who is the owner of the Hungry Moose on Sterling.
Here’s Chad talking about why he decided to purchase this classic East Peoria Pizzeria!
There’s his daughter, Courtney, serving us up a beer from behind the bar.
Courtney said she’s the new manager here and they plan on making some minor remodeling adjustments, the pizza will stay the same and they have the time-worn recipe and don’t plan on changing a thing!
Plastic beet pitchers hang over head and as you can see, they have a nice selection of beers in bottles, cans and on draft.
There’s another shot of the dining room and I love the antique telephone booth in the corner. I hope maybe Chad and Courtney will finally put a phone in here, that would make my day!
There’s a classic photo of Davis Bros. back in the day and in my travels I ran into Tim and Jeanette Brickner!
Great to see both of them and catch up on things!
Tim is a musician and plays in Matthew Curry’s band and Jonny Quest band, among others.
Jeanette has not one, but two YouTube Channels and you need to subscribe to them and you can check them out here: JB’s Explore & More and The Sunnyland Seller.
Great to see both of them!
Chad Zike also purchased the frozen food version of Davis Bros. Pizza. You can buy them here and in select retail outlets around town.
They have an impressive game room in the back with a pool table, games, foosball and there’s a back room you can rent out here.
They had a party going on, so I took a shot from the outside.
Meanwhile, back at the bar…
Our appetizer order of breadsticks have shown up. They were soft, delicious and the marinara added a nice zip to the mix.
And now on to the star of the show, the Davis Bros. Pizza!
We got a large supreme and it looks simply fabulous! I always let mine cool a little bit, I like my pizza at room temperature.
Wow, the crust is crispy, the cheese is rich and the sauce has such a nice and unique flavor to it. This is definitely the Davis Bros. pizza I remember from the past.
The Zikes have brought the original flavor back and if you haven’t tried it, you need to stop by and have a flavor from 1948! Delicious!
Thanks to Chad Zike for buying Davis Bros. Pizza and keeping a tasty memory alive! Cheers to the next chapter of Davis Bros. Pizza!
