Okay, time for a quick update on my forthcoming book: “Travelings With Marty - True Life Tales and Memories From America’s Most Unlikely Writer.”
Last week I gave you a quick sample of the Introduction and this week I’ll give you a tiny taste of the first chapter. The book is going to be set in chronological order and focus on stories and places that my writing took me.
However I didn’t start writing till 1985, so Chapter One is a quick bulleted chapter of what happened in the years before 1985. Below is the beginning and end of that chapter.
Plus there’s my review/synopsis of The Beasite Boys Book, which I just finished reading.
Enjoy!

Chapter One: 1958 - 1985 - Just The Facts - A Mini Bulleted Biography
As I said in the introduction, this isn’t a biography, but I’d like to fill you in on my life up until I became a writer and the journey that happened after I started writing.
So here ’s some bulleted facts about my life from 1958 To 1985.
• April 25, 1958: I was officially born on this date in Peoria, Illinois. My parents were Gerry and Anne Wombacher. I have one sister, Terry and two brothers, Tom and Jim. Terry is the oldest, then Tom who is two years younger, Jim was two years younger than Tom and then there’s me, two years younger than Jim and the baby of the family!
• Fall Of 1985: I create a game with a friend and co-worker, Greg Owens which is a satirical version of Trivial Pursuit. Our game is called “Trivial Trivia: The Idiot Edition” and it’s where my writing travelogue begins. My life changes at this moment and it’s never the same again.
This is where this book really starts, see you in the next chapter!

I Just Finished Reading…
I’ll say this up front, I’m not a huge Beastie Boys fan. In my lifetime I’ve bought two Beastie Boys CD’s: “Paul’s Boutique” and “Check Your Head.” I liked both CD’s but they didn’t turn me into a die-hard Beastie Boys fan.
I was curious about their backgrounds, how they got the big break of opening up for Madonna at the start of their career, what led them to get signed to Def Jam Records, their relationship with producer, Rick Rubin and all of those curiosities were answered but in a wildly disjointed manner.
The book is pretty much written by the two remaining Beastie Boys, Adam Horowitz and Michael Diamond. The third Beastie Boy, Adam Yauch died in 2012. If you’re wondering how he died, you won’t find out from this book, it’s never mentioned. I found that incredibly weird. They dedicate the introduction to him, but nothing is said about his death other than he’s not around anymore.
The whole book is really disjointed and there’s a lot in there that could have been scrapped, like a cookbook section with recipes and while I’m a big Amy Poehler fan, I could’ve done without her video reviews of every Beastie Boys videos.
If you’re a Beastie Boys fanatic, you may enjoy this book, but me being just a casual fan and sometime listener isn’t going to recommend it.
I’ll have a new book next week! Stay tuned!
