We’re up to week number three of our Macaroni and Cheese eating tour and we’re going to go to a brand new destination that I’ve never been to before.
Scroll down to see where this week’s cheesy adventure leads us to!
That’s my friend, Virgil behind the wheel and we’re heading off to Morton to try a macaroni and cheese dish at a new restaurant there. We’re meeting another guest there and it’s kind of ironic we’re driving there to meet him. You’ll see what I mean when I get there.
Virgil owns and operates his business out of Morton. The company is called, Medical Resources Group Limited and you can visit their website here.
And through the miracle of these here interwebs, here we are!
This is Morton’s newest dining destination, Verandah Cocina Latina. They just opened up in February and Virgil said the food and atmosphere is top notch!
Let’s go in and check it out!
Isaac met us at the door and escorted us to a table in the dining area.
Isaac and his family own the restaurant and he said it’s been going great and that business has been booming. Great to hear!
There’s our two special guest stars for this week’s mac and cheese episode: Virgil and MBIP Wheelman and pal, Scott!
As I mentioned earlier, it’s a little ironic taking a road trip to meet Scott who’s usually behind the wheel on these trips!
I checked out the menu and there’s their version of mac and cheese: Mac & Carnitas. It sounds delicious and I can’t wait to sample this cheesy creation!
Jasmine was our pretty and friendly waitress and here she is delivering a drink and then she took our order.
I love it when things work out like this!
Here’s another shot of the dining area in the front of the room.
The bar is in the back and it’s very impressive. I love the three arch shelves in the wall.
There’s a long shot of the wooden bar and the trifecta of beers on tap.
They have a nice enclosed patio area outside with tables and comfortable lounge area.
Meanwhile, back at our table…
Our lunches have arrived and the food looks spectacular!
Scott got a pork belly taco and Virgil went with an order of the avocado toast which comes topped with crispy onions and a side of potatoes.
They both raved about the food and there’s Scott leaning in for the patent=pending, “Turley Bite!”
And now for the star of the show…
This week’s macaroni and cheese!
Wow, I love the presentation of this dish! It’s served in a personal skillet atop a wooden platter topped with green onions and bread crumbs. It looks absolutely fabulous!
Wow, it tastes even better than it looks!
There’s five rich cheeses incorporated into this melty dish and they’re balanced out by the savory and tasty Mexican seasoned pulled pork carnitas.
It’s drizzled with ghost pepper sauce which brings a little heat to the mix. You can read more about this in the rating section, but this is hands-down the best mac and cheese I’ve ever had in my life!
What a fantastic lunch!
Thanks to Virgil and Scott for joining me, this was a fabulous afternoon in Morton, Illinois!

MACARONI AND CHEESE RATING FOR WEEK NUMBER Three At Verandah Cocina Latina
As I stated above, this is the best mac and cheese I’ve ever had!
The presentation was spectacular and the dish had a variety of flavors all working perfectly together.
The dish has five cheese selections melted in with the macaroni and it works so well with the seasoned and somewhat spicy pulled pork carnitas. It’s drizzled with a ghost pepper sauce and topped with green onions and the dish is a cheesy masterpiece!
This will be hard to beat and I’m giving it an unheard of four and a quarter rating! Yes, it’s that delicious. I highly recommend that you get over to Verandah in Morton and try this cheesy sensation out!
