Derek J. Hoover, Jason Tauscher and Dustin Wikoff are veteran podcasters and their latest endeavor is a weekly podcast called, Yesterdaze. This is a podcast that takes a nostalgic look at all things pop culture from cartoons, TV shows, games, movies and most recently music.
It’s a fun and entertaining weekly podcast and you can read all about it and Derek, Jason and Dustin by clicking here. Check out the present and past episodes by clicking on this handy and dandy link.
The most recent episode looks backwards at the first rock “mockumentary”, This Is Spinal Tap. I was thrilled to be asked to be a guest on this episode because this is one of my all-time favorite movies and I actually saw it in the Westlake Movie Theater when it was first released way back in 1984. Yes, I’m old!
So, of course I brought the MBIP Camera to document this episode and now let’s go take a behind the scenes look at the making of this current episode of Yesterdaze!
The shows are recorded here in Jason’s front room of his home. There’s the table we’ll be gathered around once Derek and Dustin arrive.
In the meantime, Jason’s got some cool stuff on display in here, let’s take a look around!
These are just a few of the vintage, framed posters on display in here.
Wow, check out the reel to reel tape recorder!
Space Ghost is on TV and I love the World Map of Natural Hazards!
The bottle cap refrigerator is very impressive and check out the wall-sized Jimmy John’s menu!
And now it’s time to meet the hosts of Yesterdaze!
From left: Jason, Dustin and Derek! Wonderful to see them and I’m looking forward to doing the podcast with them tonight!
The table is now wired with microphones and beer cans are in place…ladies and gentlemen…it’s showtime!
The first part of the show is a combination of introductions, witty banter and improv comedic conversation.
Here’s the view from where I sit and my very own microphone!
The topic has now turned to the nostalgic subject of the evening, the mockumentary movie, Spinal Tap. Everyone shared where they first saw the movie and their reaction to the film.
These guys come well-prepared with notes and lots of facts and stories about Spinal Tap!
I didn’t bring any notes, but I do have an impressive trail of empty tall boys growing on the table!
One very impressove highlight of the show is the interview that Jason had with Spinal Tap cast member, Harry Shearer. He talks about the origins of the film and the band and there’s a link to the original interview in its entirety below in the Production Notes.
This was so much fun and these guys really know how to plan, prepare and put together a fun podcast that rolls along seemingly effortlessly to the listeners ears.
There’s a much-needed structure to the podcast that’s mixed with a free-for-all funhouse feeling that makes for a perfectly balanced program!
And yes, this one definitely went to eleven!
Thanks for having me on as a guest, it was a fun evening and a true nostalgic blast looking at Spinal Tap’s past!
