We took the winter off for our Scott Turley Road Trip posts, but spring has sprung here in the Midwest and it’s time to hit the road with the MBIP Pal and Wheelman, Scott Turley!
For decades, Pekin has been home to Cranwill’s Drive-In root beer stand, but now they’ve opened up a bar and grill in Washington…hey, what’s that knock on the door…
Holy freakin’ moley, it’s Denzel Washington!
Uh, sorry Denzel, you didn’t let me finish, we’re going to be traveling to Washington, Illinois to check out the brand new Cranwill’s Bar & Grill. You can run along and see if Peoria Players Theatre has something for you to do!
And there’s yet another knock on the door, just in time…
Alright, this is more what we were waiting for, it’s the aforementioned MBIP Pal and Wheelman, Scot Turley!
Time to put this show on the road…literally!
And we’re off, there’s Scott behind the wheel and this month’s road trip will be a quick one, as Washington, Illinois isn’t too far away.
In fact, that looks like our destination straight ahead!
There it is, Cranwill’s Bar & Grill! It looks nice and welcoming!
Let’s go inside and let this month’s Scott Turley Road Trip begin!
They have a nice bar in here and as you can see, Scott has already found us seats there, so let’s get settled in!
There’s Keisha and Haley delivering us a couple beers along with fabulous smiles. What fabulous service and a wonderful way to start the afternoon off!
We checked the menu, placed our orders and now I’m going to take a few photos while it’s being prepared.
Here’s a shot from another angle of the bar and as you can see, the cooler behind the bar is well stocked with a variety of cans and bottles of beer.
They also have a great selection of beers on tap, there’s a dozen total!
There’s a nice dining room off to the side of the bar with tables and comfortable booths lining the far wall.
And there’s yet another dining room on the opposite side of the bar.
There’s plenty of seating in here for sure!
Meanwhile, back at the bar…
We got an order of the onion rings to share as an appetizer. These were homemade, nicely seasoned, crisp and very tasty!
Scott’s an onion ring aficionado and he gave them the official Turley Seal of Onion Ring Approval!
Now our sandwiches for the afternoon have arrived!
Scott got their signature Cranwill Coney dog with homemade chili sauce, chopped onion and relish and I got the Slim Jim Sandwich.
There’s the famous Turley Bite!
I think Scott devoured half of the Coney Dog with that massive bite! Man bites dog!
Scott said it was a tasty and delicious Coney Dog!
The Slim Jim is a house specialty sandwich.
It’s got fresh ham slices, Swiss cheese, lettuce, house-made sauce on a steamed hoagie bun.
I added some mustard and this is one tasty sandwich. The bun was bakery fresh and it was a nice slice of comfort food!
We asked if they had any sweet drinks at the bar for a dessert drink and Keisha said she could make us up a couple of Adult Root Beer Floats.
She took two frosted mugs and added a healthy amount of Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey to them.
Then she took them in the back and added Cranwill’s homemade Root Beer and a scoop of fresh vanilla ice cream and presented them to myself and Scott.
These were a real highlight to the afternoon and a tasty and mighty satisfying dessert drink!
Thanks to Keisha and Haley for the wonderful food, drinks and hospitality at Cranwill’s Bar & Grill!
And thanks, as always to MBIP Pal and Wheelman, Scott Turley for driving and thinking of this month’s road trip destination! It was a fun-filled trip and afternoon as always!
