We’re up to week number thirteen on this cheesy tour and we’re headed to Morton to check out Dac’s Smokehouse.
I haven’t been to Dac’s since they moved out of Campustown and I’ve heard good reports about their Mac and Cheese, so let’s hit the road to Morton, Illinois!
And through the miracles of these here interwebs, here we are in Morton, Illinois at Dac’s Smokehouse. I’m anxious to try this place out again, I’ve missed it since it moved out of Campustown in Peoria.
There’s a hostess station in the foyer, let’s go over and get seated and let week number thirteen begin!
Faith was the cute hostess on duty and as she led me to a table a FAMILIAR FACE ALERT! went off…
It’s none other than MBIP Pal and Wheelman, Scott Turley!
For once we drove to meet him in his hometown turf of Morton, Illinois! Always great to see Scott, but I need to get a beer to catch up with him!
And like magic, our pretty and friendly waitress Tiffany delivers me a Bud tall boy! It’s a miracle!
She also took our dinner order and that means it’s time for me to take some pictures in here.
This place is an historic building and it was originally the Morton Blacksmith & Welding Shop.
There’s the ghost sign on the wall from years ago. A cool piece of history on display in here.
Here’s another shot of the dining room. It’s got a very nice welcoming vibe in here.
There’s a nice full bar at the back of the room.
There’s the quartet of beers they have on tap back here.
Here’s a shot of the dining room from this end of the place.
Meanwhile, back at our table…
Our appetizer order of onion rings have appeared and there’s Scott trying one of the rings out for size! Dinner is off to a fabulous start!
Now, on to the star of tonight’s dinner, the Mac and Cheese!
Dac’s has five different styles of Mac and Cheese on their menu to choose from.
Scott ordered the Brisket Baby Bella Mushroom Mac and I ordered two of the Mac and Cheese offerings: The White Cheddar Mac and The Pulled Pork Honey BBQ Mac.
There’s Scott digging in to the Brisket Baby Bella Mushroom Mac and Cheese taking the patent-pending Turley bite!
He said it was delicious and gave it two thumbs up!
I wanted to try two styles and I’ll give the final rating to the one I like the best.
First up is the The Pulled Pork Honey BBQ Mac and Cheese. Thsi was so tasty and had so many flavors happening.
The tender pork and tangy bbq sauce mixed nicely with the rich mac and cheese and the underlying honey added a sweet level of flavor. Very tasty and delicious!
I also wanted to try a more old school approach and so I also sampled the The White Cheddar Mac and Cheese.
This was so rich, creamy and absolutely delicious!
The Pulled Pork was tasty but I have to admit, this was pure Mac and Cheese and it was a pure delight.
I loved both of them but I actually liked this one the best and so this is the one that will get this week’s rating.

MACARONI AND CHEESE RATING FOR WEEK NUMBER Thirteen AT Dac’s Smokehouse
I really loved this version of their Mac and Cheese offerings but I wish they would’ve topped it off with a layer of toasted cracker crumbs. It could’ve used a little crunch to the consistency, but having said that, this is first rate Mac and Cheese.
Very rich and tasty and worth seeking out at Dac’s Smokehouse!
I’ll give the The White Cheddar Mac and Cheese a high rating of three and a quarter boxes. I’m anxious to return and try the other flavors!
Thanks to Scott for being this week’s special guest and to everyone at Dac’s for the great service and delicious Mac and Cheese!
