Eleven years ago on this date I published a post about a trip to Stan’s Wine & Spirits Store, located on the outskirts of The Metro Centre.
I had a special memory from Stan’s because back on July 6th, 1993, I bought my last six pack of beer from Stan and the next day I moved to New York City. I told Stan that night back in 1993 that I was moving to New York and we had a nice conversation about it and then I didn’t see Stan again for over 19 years!
In the summer of 2013, I strolled in and there was Stan behind the counter. I thought he wouldn’t remember who I was but as soon as he saw me, he sang out, “Marty Wombacher…welcome back!”
I couldn’t believe he remembered me and we had another nice conversation about New York and me coming back to Peoria and I told him I’d return and do a blog on Stan’s Wines & Spirits and that’s where these photos happened, eleven years ago!

Photos And A Link to the post From July 11, 2013
There’s the old Stan’s sign with an illustration of Stan the Man on it!
Stan started out in the liquor business in 1969 at Sheridan Village and then moved to this location on the outskirts of the Metro Centre in 1987.
Here’s Stan with employee Evan behind the front counter.
There’s Stan in front of the wall of Pints & Collector’s Items.
This was a customer service driven shop with things like, “Stan’s Wine Serving Suggestions” hanging on the walls in here.
The original post has a nice interview with Stan and you can access that 13-year-old post by clicking here: Shop Local Because Chain Stores Suck Monkey Lungs And Often Smell Of Stale Ass: Stan’s Wine & Spirits Store.
